CBLPI Staff - Jeanne O'ConnorAdministrative Directorjoconnor@cblpi.org
Jeanne is a graduate of George Mason University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for a number of doctors for several years. When her first child was born, she chose to stay home as a full time mother. The multiple moves and numerous lengthy at-sea deployments of her husband reinforced the importance of this decision, especially as the family grew. Jeanne does a lot of volunteer work at her children's schools, her church and within the Navy support community, as well as with her children's soccer, swimming and scouting activities. A graduate of the Navy's Ombudsman University, Jeanne worked many years in various support organizations mentoring young Navy wives and helping their families deal with the various challenges that confront the unique life of military service. As her husband rose through the ranks to command of a nuclear submarine, Jeanne's responsibilities increased as a mentor, role model and supporter of Navy families associated with her husband's various submarine commands and tours of duty. As her children grew, Jeanne became more involved in their school education. She was an active supporter of gifted education in Virginia Beach, Virginia and taught computer skills to young (pre-school/kindergarten) children. Watching her eldest daughter finish her senior year in high school as an International Baccalaureate Diploma student, Jeanne is convinced that gifted and advanced placement educational programs help promote raising educational standards throughout a school system. "‘Carpe Diem' -- seize the day -- is a motto I try to live by. When offered the opportunity to work at the Luce Policy Institute with professional women who share the same concerns, priorities and beliefs as myself, I seized the chance!" said Jeanne. When not out at soccer fields watching one of her children's games, Jeanne loves to cook, read a good book and work in the garden, but her greatest satisfaction comes from watching her family grow. "Jeanne is a wonderful example of the kind of woman we encourage young women to become -- a woman of faith who cherishes her family and exhibits outstanding professional competence and skills. Her enthusiasm and energy are infectious and tremendously welcome on the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute staff," said Luce President Michelle Easton. |
